Arnet's Becker Burrell Memorials - Ypsilanti
The first monument completed by the Arnet family in the United States was in 1888. Joseph Arnet founded Arnet’s in 1904 with the $15.00 death benefit from his father’s insurance policy and a $10.00 loan. Joseph built the business into quite a success. His work can still be appreciated in the local cemeteries. In 1935, his son Frederick Arnet took over the company. Fred was a graduate Architect of the University of Michigan and his works excelled in this area. Then Larry Arnet took over in 1953. Larry was very creative in his marketing and adding additional lines of business including 2 crematories, a sign department etc. He contributed to the Michigan Monument Builders for over 30 years as secretary and was a member of the AICA for over 25 years.

A 2004 PRESS RELEASE:

LOCAL FAMILY OWNED COMPANY CELEBRATES 100 YEARS IN THE MONUMENT MAKING BUSINESS.

Back in 1904… the ice cream cone was introduced, Wilbur Wright made his first airplane flight, a woman was arrested in New York City for smoking a cigarette in a car and Arnet’s Cemetery Monuments was established.

We’ve come a long way, baby! Now known as Arnet’s Inc., family owned and operated, making monuments but now offers exciting new designs, techniques, products and services.

In 1904 when Arnet’s was first established, monuments were created from large blocks of marble and granite. Lettering and artwork were created by hand chiseling, removing the background and leaving the lettering and artwork raised. Although some memorials are still created this way, most are created with lettering incised. Artwork has changed drastically since 1904, we now offer very detailed etchings that can be very personalized. Portraits, homes, even someone’s signature can be incorporated to make a very fitting memorial.

Since 1904, Arnet’s not only has been making monuments, but has also added sandblasting, address stones, pet cremation, human cremation, custom signs, bronze plaques and all kinds of accessories such as eternal flame lights, flower vases, cremation urns etc.
